SUNYCAP Membership Drive
Last year was a record year for membership, SUNY colleges across all sectors represented by becoming members of the organization that is for us. As we move into a new membership year I look forward to returning and new membership. I therefore encourage SUNYCAP members to renew their membership and also invite non-members to join an organization which provides a number of professional development opportunities! Don’t forget that as the 39th Annual SUNYCAP Conference, which will be in the beautiful Lake Placid, approaches members are also eligible to apply for SUNYCAP grants and scholarships. SUNYCAP is a professional organization devoted to the issues and concerns facing today’s admissions professionals, as well as the promotion and success of the State University of New York. ~Message from Tom re: Paul Rose~
Joe Insel sent this to me this morning. Paul Rose was formerly the Director of Admissions at SUNY Morrisville. Let's all keep Paul in our thoughts and prayers!
Tom
I have spoken to Paul Rose, and he has been diagnosed with liver cancer
- stage two, and it has mastecized to his vertebrae. More tests are scheduled this week, including biopsies , MRI, and so forth. Paul has been advised by his minister to let everyone know of his situation. If you are inclined to contact him, I think he would welcome it. Perhaps you can share with SUNYCAP people..Paul seeks our prayers and support - not any sympathy - and welcomes any information relative to treatments he might have access to. He can be reached at 315-824-1321 or email at prose100@twcny.rr.com . His address is 8 Hamilton St., Hamilton, NY (not sure of zip code...).
What makes his illness even more cruel is that he has taken such great care of himself - all his life...

SAVE THE DATE!
June 11-13 2008
Hyatt Regency, Rochester
In just four months we will be at our annual SUNYCAP Conference. Please add the date to your calendars and be prepared for an exciting conference! The Committee has been busy reviewing conference session proposals, planning entertainment, conference speakers and our charity dinner where the Hillside Education Project will be the beneficiary.
Please know that there is still time to submit conference proposals. Forms can be found online at www.sunycap.com and are due Friday, February 22. Please think about doing a presentation yourself. Second, forward the link and encourage your colleagues to make a proposal. Third, bring it up in a staff meeting so that everyone knows how important it is and works together toward making the conference a great opportunity for professional development. If you have any questions about making a proposal, you can e-mail me (jtgates@binghamton.edu) or Kelli Hickey at (khickey@buffalo.edu).
Excitement is building for the conference and the committee will assure you that it will be a great time for professional and personal growth! Remember to save the date today and send this email to your office colleagues and SUNY friends.
I look forward to seeing you at the conference.

~Save the Date~
on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
Take this opportunity to join New York State education professionals to make our voice heard in Albany. The forum will provide a chance to impact the future of education and higher education in New York.
Forum highlights:
• "Effective Advocacy (Lobby 101)" session at the Crowne Plaza Hotel
• Meet with your representatives
o Voice your support for Higher Education and K-12
o Different tracks based on level of experience
o Special track for students
• Buses pick up from, and return to, New York City
• Distinguished keynote speaker
This is an extremely significant year for education and policy. Gov. Spitzer has announced his intention to adopt many of the recommendations of his Commission on Higher Education, which is the state’s most expansive higher education initiative in decades.
There promises to be important opportunities and challenges in the education field with the state budget deadline on April 1. We can advocate for implementation of the Commission’s recommendations as well as more state funding for K-12.
More details and registration information will follow.
Contact Matt Peppe or Brian Fessler now to register at (518) 472-1515,
